4 HEALTH BENEFITS OF PEACHES - GRILLED PEACH DESSERT RECIPE

Have you had peaches recently? July is the peak season for peaches. The fact that peaches taste so delicious makes us often overlook their health benefits. Read below to be surprised by the wonders peaches can do to your body:

1) Nutrient dense
Peaches are packed with fiber, nutrients and antioxidants that will instantly arm up your immune system. One study found that fresh and canned peaches have comparable content of nutrients as long as canned varieties are unpeeled.1 However, fresh peaches contain significantly higher amount of antioxidants. 2 So if you want to maximize your intake of antioxidents from consuming peaches, opt for fresh peaches whenever available. The fresher and riper peaches are, the more nutrients and antioxidants they contain.

2) May improve heart health
Studies show that regular consumption of peaches effectively reduce blood cholesterol levels. Our livers use cholesterols to make bile acids; active compounds in peaches bind to the bile acids, enabling their excretion through our feces. Left unbound, the free bile acids will eventually be reabsorbed in the body.3

3) May prevent certain cancers
Peaches are packed with polyphenols that are shown to kill certain cancerous cells as well as inhibit their growth. According to the same study, to reap this anticancer effect, a person would need to consume two to three peaches a day.5

4) May improve skin health
Peaches keep you looking youthful with their high content of ceramides, lipids concentrated in the uppermost layers of skin responsible for limiting moisture loss and protecting against aging.6
